I’m going out on a limb here–these air-fried egg rolls are BETTER than most of the deep fried ones I’ve had. If you follow me on Instagram (@litecravings), you know about my new obsession–this Simple Livings XL Air Fryer. I avoided the air-fryer hype for a long time. People have been living their whole lives just making crispy things in the oven, so why would I need another appliance? I was so wrong. This appliance is pure magic.
That being said, you can definitely make these in a regular oven, and they’ll be very good. Just not as fantastic as in the air fryer. Trust me. Oh, did I mention that each egg roll comes out to only 1 SP? One deep-fried egg roll will set you back 6 SP, so that’s a points bargain if I’ve ever seen one!
There is just a small catch with the points calculations. When I track one egg roll wrapper, it came out to 2 SP, but when I put 6 into the recipe builder and divided the portions into 6, each egg roll came out to 1 SP each. I think it’s because after you have that first wrapper, each one after only counts as 1 SP. So my plan is that when I have only one, I’ll track it as 2 SP. If I have two, I’ll track as 3 SP, 3 for 4 SP, etc. That’s what makes sense to me, but do what makes you feel comfortable.
Now, the only other catch is how to wrap the dang things. Here’a a step-by-step for ya:
Make sure you have a small bowl of water next to you. Start with the wrapper in a diamond shape, and add 3 tbsp of filling to the bottom-middle of the wrapper.
Take the bottom corner (closest to you) and fold over the filling. Use some water on your finger to secure the corner to the middle of the wrapper.
Fold each side corner towards the middle, kind of like wrapping the sides of a present. Secure with more water.
Now roll the bottom part with the filling up, making sure you keep the sides tightly secured. Secure the seam with more water.
Now you’re ready to fry or bake. Enjoy!
I’d love to hear from you if you make this recipe! It makes my day when you share your pics on Instagram and tag me (@litecravings). Don’t forget to use #litecravingsrecipes to make sure I see it. If I don’t get a chance to scroll through my tags quickly enough, I won’t see your post. I always make a point to look through the hashtags, though, so I’ll see it there!
Chinese-Style Egg Rolls
Ingredients
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 lb 99% fat free ground turkey
- 1/2 tsp Chinese Five-Spice (or just use a few dashed on garlic and ginger powder)
- 1/2 tsp ground pepper
- 4 cups coleslaw mix
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/4 cup chopped green onion
- 6 egg roll wrappers
Instructions
- In a large skillet, brown turkey in sesame oil, seasoning with spices.
- Add in coleslaw mix and 1 tbsp water. Saute until just soft, about 4-5 minutes.
- Add in green onions. Let mixture cool.
- Take one egg roll wrapper out at a time, fill with about 3 tbsp meat and veggie mixture, and roll (according to previous directions). Spray each side of rolls with cooking spray and place seam-side down in your cooking vessel.
- Air fry at 380 for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, or at 390 for 10 minutes, flipping as well. I like them at the lower temperature because they seem more like actual fried food–not extra crispy, but crispy enough. If you want extra crispy egg rolls, cook at 390, though they may burn just a bit on the ends. You could also bake in the oven at 425 for 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through as well.

I tried these with spring roll wrappers and it didn’t look anything like the posted picture. Is there a difference between egg roll wrappers and spring roll wrappers? I’ve googled it and have even searched on amazon and the only thing I have found is Rice spring roll wrappers. I’m thinking that these are rice based but I’d thought that I would ask 🙂
Geri @ Lite Cravings says
No, you definitely need the Wonton wrappers to make this work. Spring Roll wrappers are made fromrice and we very delicate–too thin to cook like this. Wonton wrappers are made from flour and a lot sturdier.

Thank you! Love that they were a hit.

Do you know the sodium content?
admin says
I don’t, but I assume it would be pretty high given the soy sauce. Have you tried using MyFitnessPal? You in input the ingredients there. Or, I would just omit the soy sauce if you want lower sodium.
