Healthier Buffalo Chicken Dip is a new game day favorite! All of the flavor of the original recipe, but with a few healthier alternative ingredients.
Who else loves the fall?? I enjoy the cooler weather and incoming holidays, but more than anything, I love the sports-packed weekends!
Football season is in full swing. We’ve been invited to lots of football-viewing potlucks lately. I’m always on the hunt for new appetizer recipes to bring to such events.
This dip a total winner! I’ve made it for crowds who don’t even know it’s “healthier” and WW-friendly, and I’m always asked for the recipe.
It’s about time I share this crowd-pleasing recipe with you all!
INgredient list for healthier buffalo chicken dip
I bet you already have most of this stuff at home right now!
- Shredded, cooked chicken breast (about a pound)
- Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Sauce
- Reduced-fat cream cheese
- Reduced-fat shredded cheese
- Plain nonfat Greek yogurt
- Ranch seasoning (or a blend of garlic and onion powder)
That’s it! It’s incredible how much flavor can come from such minimal and simple ingredients.
the easiest appetizer
There are so many reasons why this is one of the easiest and most forgiving recipes you could make.
- There’s only six ingredients
- It’s great at any temperature–hot, room temp. We even eat leftovers straight from the fridge!
- You can make this in the oven or on the stovetop. If you have a smaller slow cooker, you could even throw the ingredients in there and let it cook on low for a few hours.
- It has 19g of protein per serving, so you can totally turn this into a dinner! Some of this dip on top of baked potatoes would be heavenly!
Is healthier buffalo chicken dip spicy?
Don’t skip over this recipe if you’re a lightweight when it comes to spice. IT’s really more tangy than spicy. Make sure you buy the bottle that just says “Buffalo Style”–not “Hot Buffalo. This will make a huge difference!
Another option is to reduce the amount of wing sauce in the recipe. But I wouldn’t go below about 1/2 cup. Otherwise, you’ll lose most of the “Buffalo” flavor.
make is spicier!
Like I mentioned before, this really is a mild dip, spice-wise. That’s why I feel comfortable making this for a crowd.
But if you’re like my husband, you want all of the spice! Here are some ways you could up the heat:
- Add a diced jalapeno to the mix
- Add a few teaspoons of your favorite hot sauce.
- Drizzle the top of the cooked dip with extra buffalo sauce.
Whether you like things mild or extra spicy, I’m sure you’re going to love this recipe!
